Murray R. Adamthwaite, the host of this website, has a stake in Tyndale College, a Distance Education operation based at Hunter’s Hill in the Sydney metropolitan area. He is head of Old Testament studies in this institution, and has authored most of the Old Testament courses offered through the College.
Accreditation At its Council Meeting in June, 2007, the decision was made by faculty and management to award the following qualifications:
Associateship of Theology (A.Th), for the equivalent of one year’s full time study. Licentiate of Theology (L.Th) for the equivalent of two years’ full time study. Scholar of Theology (Th.Schol) for the equivalent of three years’ full time study.
This decision was taken in view of the evident difficulty of meeting government standards for accreditation of its courses and at the same time maintaining Tyndale’s programme of solidly Bible-based study. In the meantime Tyndale staff have proceeded with these awards, with a certificate and an academic hood given on graduation, currently for the L.Th.
Tyndale College is now a Member of ACCESS, the Association of Christian Continuing Education Schools and Seminaries. A large number of other Distance Education Colleges around the world are members of this organisation, and Tyndale trusts that our membership will be of mutual benefit,
Overseas Recognition of Tyndale College Because of the difficulties with Higher Education requirements in Australia Tyndale has made enquiries to overseas institutions for recognition of our qualifications. As a result, and rigorous investigation from the South African end, Tyndale has secured such recognition from the South African Theological Seminary (SATS), an institution of worldwide renown and acceptance , fully accredited by the South African government to award its degrees. Additionally, the Greenwich School of Theology in Britain will grant credit towards their B.A. degree for work completed with Tyndale College. This Distance Education College is accredited by, and its degrees are awarded by, the North West University of South Africa. Furthermore, there are several Colleges in the United States which will grant our students credit in their degree courses, but on an individual student basis.
So while our students do have a choice, the best option is our arrangement with SATS.
For further information on these arrangements see the Tyndale website: http://www.tyndalecollege.org.au
